I work primarily in painted portraiture with surrealist influences. Through a combination of 2D paintings and either sculpture or installation, I break the visual plane by using diverse surfaces which allows me to layer multiple meanings within the artwork. I started this type of work to convey a more accurate representation of the energies felt from within my body and how that energy interacts externally. The connection we feel to ourselves, each other, and the natural world is the reason why we co-exist on earth, and I am determined to break down the barriers between these entities.

While self-portraiture has been prevalent throughout art history, it is contemporary to separate from realistic depictions of self. I abstract the perspective of my image by synthesizing multiple states of consciousness. By exploring the relationship between painting and installation, I merge the 2nd and 3rd dimensions in order to understand the intangible expressions that exist within an elevated realm. I look towards contemporary artist Jemima Stheli through the way she deconstructs the meanings society applies to the physical body. Reflecting that mode of abstraction into understanding human connection and emotions.

I currently have work that examines the realizations of human connection, emotions, and dreams. I plan to expand towards understanding the energies that tethers consciousness to the physical plane.
